Utah!

Could be the bloom! I looked that up, and that sounds like it is it. My BSL lays brown, but they come out with a film on them that makes them look slightly purple-ish. It washes off, (scrubbing it) but I don't scrub them anymore. WHen they are wet, they look reddish brown, then when they dry the film gives them the weird tint.

Now this egg does also have a lavender ish tint---this tuff on this one is much much thicker! It looks white until you put it on a white paper, then it looks quite lavenderish. That must be what is going on, had not heard of that before. Thanks for the info! So strange!

Sorry, teasing always cheers me up....

Oh man! I wish,, ha, good thing they were already sold! I would so have bought them. Given it ONE more try. I already have enough that will be hatching before I have my other two bators officially sold within a month.
I have Lavender Orpingtons on the way, and, silver Sussex. A couple of different breeds that I haven't hatched, and have thought about doing. I love the silver Sussex!

Wow, different egg all right. I've seen a lot of eggs like that through the years, sometimes it's because it got wet..maybe she was wet on her bottom feathers when she laid it, or the nest box got wet from all of them "tracking in the mud." My guess, it will look good again.

hmm, I wonder if I pm that gal that was selling those partridge eggs, would have more in a bit? LOL

going to post lots of pictures now! Had fun out in the rain. Not so much rain...

Wow, is that what they call bloom? Like an excess there of? I seem to recall running into a Lavender Egger thread somewhere and the bloom and dark brown was what caused the lavender eggs. It has been a while and I read a lot.

Anyhow, I came on here to offer my DH's services on the train thing. Not sure how you all work it, but he travels all over the state, up to ID, WY, and MT, and sometimes different areas in NV. He tends to be down around Provo area and up in Logan a lot. So...if anyone is needing to transport chickies, chances are, with notice, we can help. I finally remembered that I have been meaining to offer because he is in Logan today. So, there's my attempt at being friendly :)

This is GREAT to know! Thanks! I am needing a chick from Orem to get to Logan.....so far Aravis is planning on picking it up this weekend then getting it to Ogden in a few weeks, then I was going to try to drive to Ogden to meet her. But if he happens to be in Orem and then Logan any sooner than that let me know :) Thanks!

I am making a trip to Idaho in the spring to get Black Tail Buff Marans from Michelle....this is way ahead notice but you ahve to order started pullets from her way ahead lol so I already got on her list if any body else is interested :)

Went up Spanish Fork Canyon..love that canyon for the fall colors! Got some pictures while driving, and then got out at a pull out. Then, found some awsome looking barns.

I see me, taking pictures.. :) Those thinks are huge..these are just behind from where I live.
These are in the mouth of the canyon.

Didn't get very good color in this canyon, up the canyon..

And along came a train :) Can you imagine what those guys driving the train see in
those mountains?!

I liked this little yellow tree

There was a little orange bush, between two little yellow trees... cute, I thought

On our way home, very pretty canyon

Then I spotted this barn and two horses..just had fun with different settings on my little
camera.

Found a really old barn

Have to wonder how many horses..or chickens, this thing housed one day. :D

Did I take up a whole page yet? :)) It was a fun early afternoon.

Oh wow, so that's what bloom is? I'd heard the term before, but I didn't know what it referred to. Some of the eggs I've gotten from my new layers have little flecks of that on the shell - wet them down, and they are nice, dark brown speckles!

Cynthia, don't do it! You will be beating yourself for it later!

Lisa, those Marans are so pretty, but I'll have my hands full starting up some breeding with my own birds. Well, fairly laid-back breeding, depending on how well I can sell eggs or chicks. Definitely going to get the Icelandics going, but I'm also tempted to try putting my black Amer. over my blue Amer. Or the black Amer. over some of the other hens for fun EE's. Hmmm...............

Whoa! I want that old barn! Coolness. Glad you got to go for a fun drive, Cynthia. I have only ever seen that canyon in the summertime. We went up Butterfield canyon yesterday and came down in Tooele canyon (I think?) Got some nice pictures along there, but alas, for I lack a computer worthy of downloading them................booo.

If you do that let me know in the spring, I would buy a blue girlie Ameraucana chick off of you :) Or a batch of eggs.

Cool pics Cynthia!
