Utah!

Sasha, will do it! I am overdue for a Sasha hug:)

Kimmy---oyster shell, just on the side so they can have some when they choose. My girls go through a ton of that stuff. Also whenever we use eggs I save the shells, let them dry out then crush them up and add them to their feed. They are like gold, I try not to ever waste the shells. It takes them a bit to catch on to the oyster shell, but once they start, the others follow.

Thanks all for the compliment on my Cotton. I trimmed her eye feathers, and my blue splashes yesterday...and Urban, I had to wash her face yesterday because she had gotten sticky from eating apples. She's purdy again.

My babies came, and seem to be doing very well. They have finally settled down. They always peep and peep for quite a while, until they don't feel like they are on a floating ship anymore. They just stand at first, right under the light. They do that whether it's warm or cold weather. They are eating and drinking now..! I have the electrolytes in there for them.

If anyone is interested, I have one leghorn left..the others are sold. I have two Australorps, two Buff sex links, and 4 BO's left.

Let me know, we have a shuttle going up north soon. :) My Swedish Babies will be hatching on the 29th, so will see how many I have of those. I know ara is wanting a couple of those. I want a couple to watch. I have 10 in lock down. I'm excited to see them. They could go on the shuttle too. She's talking about Tues. or Wed. to come and get hers.

Pictures later. Of some good laying pullets.

Cynthia, your Cotton is like an Easter bunny, but better <3 Glad your chicks arrived safely! Those Silkies should figure out where they're supposed to sleep at night. I've had to move some of my birds before so that they get the point. They eventually pick up on where "bed" is.

Lisa, sorry your buff is getting picked on so much, but she does sound like a sweetie. The BR's I got from you like to hop up on me whenever they can. I had one of the boys on my shoulder yesterday and the girl in my lap. Well, I actually had more than just them up there on and off, but they stayed for a while. And my Icelandic cockerel that has been hopping up to say hi wanted to cuddle again yesterday. He's one of the ones I got from Shawn. He's such a good boy, and so pretty. I hope he stays politely sociable.

Oh yeah, and I have officially been pecked in the eye by a chicken, so I can scratch that off the bucket list. One of the BR boys must have been curious about that shiny round thing on my face yesterday. Before I got my eye shut - peck! I'm very grateful that the human body is so resilient.

Red, OUCH!! Did you get injured at all, or did it just hurt?

Cynthia, I do love that silkie. She is so beautiful. I really want one someday. Glad your chicks made it ok.

I usually have some oyster shell on the side for them to nibble on too.

I think I'm going to move my velociraptors outside to the time out section of the coop with a brooder light. They're not feathered in completely yet, but I think with that light, they'll be ok. The gimpy cockerel is actually walking around a bit more, and seems to be definitely recovering.

Sphinx, no injury, save maybe to my pride a little for not realizing sooner that he was going to peck. He didn't peck too hard, fortunately.

I'm glad your cockerel is still mending well. The velociraptors thing made me smile. I've got a few like that, too. I watched Jurassic Park last week, and every time I see how my chickens or turkeys perch, I think, "Hmmm, small wonder where the JP creators got some inspiration from."

Oops, I forgot to say that I put out some oyster shell seperate from the chickens' food. If the girls want it, they know where to find it, and I know they eat it now and then. I think they get a good deal of the calcium they need just from grazing and free ranging in our yard, though. I see them eating dirt and stuff all the time.

i keep two 3lb feeders hanging in the coop, one for oyster shell and one for grit. i feed all flock so i go through a lot of shell, like 50lbs a year. oh and i do not feed egg shells, i am too afraid of egg eating so those go to the garden to stop snails from eating plants and any extra go to the compost bin. :)

Picture overload for ara..... :)

A box full of chicks!

A little buff Sex Link..looks more red..but, without the stripes that you see on them in

A white leghorn :) These little ones are really friendly!

Australorp These will be all black when grown

Had to share this one, look who all came running when I wriggled my fingers! Not the
others, just the leghorns. They are known for being great foragers. I was running my finger
around on the towel too, and they were chasing me all around, Scott was just laughing.

So, anyone else needing..some good egg layers for the spring. All of the leghorns are sold.

Fresh eggs come spring. Big ones at that. Well, unless you get an Australorp..that is known for laying lots..and a nice size egg, but didn't happen for Lisa.

I am in Utah County and have been buying Purina feed from IFA. Is anyone else using Purina or have recommendations on something that would be a better feed?
