Utah!

Can we talk wormers?  I have had the chicks since March, well then I added a few more over time. LOL  They are for the most part 6-7 months old now.  I've never wormed them. Should I?  Why or why not?  I know I will get different opinions.  I want to keep my ladies healthy.
i use pumpkin seeds to worm mine, its all natural and with so many people carving pumpkins its easy to get seeds. i also feed them pumpkins that people decorate with, after Halloween so many people throw them away so i offer to get rid of them and it makes people very happy. pumpkins are a major source of feed for my girls at this time of year. also stores will clearance them for super cheap on or soon after halloween. my understanding with the apple cider vinegar is it has to be the natural kind because others they take the good stuff out of it. also with the vinegar you cant use a metal waterer with it.

Birdman, I'm going to keep that in mind about the pumpkin seeds

So, I'm not so sure now that the BO's egg the magpies stole was a double yolker. I don't even think it was one of the BO's eggs. I found a second egg just like it today in the coop. It's about as long as my RIR's eggs, but quite a bit thinner around and a very pretty, glossy light pink. I don't know who's it is.

Very true on the ACV! Kimmie here is a link to a great thread about the vinegar, what kind, etc. Lots to learn....beekissed is a great source of info on natural care/cures for chickens (not medicinal) . She uses pumpkin too, and I also like it :)

My BSL's eggs are quite pink...do you have a BSL waiting to lay? I saw one in your siggie but was thinking it was the one laying all over the yard a while back with babies or something. This is quite the mystery! Let us know what you find out!

I do have a BSL here, but she's been laying for a few weeks and her eggs are huge. The BSL I had in Tooele is kaput, this is the one I got as a chick for my mom.

Here are the girls who are old enough with pink-red faces who could be laying a pink egg:

-Angel, black Wyandotte, 5-6 months old. Her comb and waddles are very black, so it's difficult to tell when there's color there.
-Stevie, blue Wyandotte, 5-6 months old. Same story as Angel, but a little easier to see color on her face.
-Cookie, SLW, 5-ish months old. Her face is hot pink verging on red.

And the girls with paler pink faces:

-Serah, the 7-mo-old blue/tan EE I gave my brother. I doubt it's her, personally.
-Thelma, the 5-ish month old EE/BO cross I got from Cynthia. She hatched from an olive egg.

Other than those girls, I've got my blue Ameraucana that's still pink in the face (Nooo Jemma, don't let it be you!!) My EE/Leghorn cross, the Exchequer Leghorn, and my oldest Icelandic pullet. I really doubt it's any of these.

What do you think?

Red, hmmmm that is hard to figure out! Lots of choices there.....EDIT**after thinking hard on this I am going to put my money on Cookie. She sounds yummy.

Sundance, good to know, I wonder if certain types are worse than others that way?

Waiting for my call from Sphinx, I am driving down to her place to get my UN NN tonight! yay!

Random thoughts:
We had the hardest frost today! Eeek! I wish I would have picked all my peppers and tomatoes beforehand....most are still ok, after picking today, but the plants are toast, but some of the veggies got burned a little. Soooo I have been canning tomatoes all day, and freezing peppers...making marinara, pizza sauce, soup, chili, etc etc etc I am SICK of being in my kitchen lol. And all I can think of is bacon ( RED!) . I am freaking hungry arrrrggh! Every time I hear about food it makes me wanna cheat! I hate diets. But it is either that, or get bigger pants. Mine were getting a little snug lol so I guess I better stick with this another week or two. I am getting closer :) It won;t be much longer. Then when I get to my goal I am having a cheeseburger with (triple)! bacon, and Pickles and (sigh....) anybody seen that baconator at Wendy's! (Insert drooling smiley here!) My smilies/all my buttons are still are missing from my reply page....I must have changed a setting or something!
