This may be a stupid question, but I will be going on vacation for a few weeks and wondered if I had a higher end incubator to turn the eggs and manage humidity, temp etc that they could be left until I get back making sure obviously that I would return well before they hatch? People will be coming to the house very few days to check on things so I’m sure I could have them check the incubator as well. I’m figuring if I got one hatch in mid October ducklings would be able to go outside by mid November and tolerate cold well by then.
If that’s not a great option how might I encourage one of my hens to go broody on some eggs instead (or in addition to)? Thanks!

The biggest issue would be if an egg went bad. If it isn't removed it will rot until it explodes, contaminating the rest of the eggs and stinking really bad. There's also the risk of a power cut which would require the incubator to be wrapped in a blanket to conserve as much heat as possible until the power came back on.

Yea I hadn’t thought of a bad egg being a problem. Guess I’d have to wager if whoever was coming to check them would be able to spot that and remove it. Thanks that’s good feedback
