Vacation waterer

No matter what you rig up, you still need someone to check on the chickens every day or so, because waterers DO tip over, leak dry, etcetera.

Alternatively you can put in about 3x as many waterers as you need (NOT just one that is 3x as large -- 3x as MANY) and trust to luck.

Doesn't take real long for lack of water to do permanent damage to an animal, and not much longer to kill it.

If your girls are anything like my bunch, even tho I place the metal waterer on 2 patio blocks 3" or 4" high, they turn over the hen house every morning so the shavings pile up in the waterer. Grrrr. Its not like they are waterless, but any ideas of what I can change, besides shackles on their ankles, ha ha.

Yep, I have one of these and it works like a charm. I still have someone coming over to take care of my chickens while I'm gone in August, but this makes watering a whole lot easier and the chickens love it. Note though, do not hook it up to any type of tubing - use a garden hose. We tried all kinds of tubing but none of them worked. They would stretch out, leak, etc. The garden hose is working perfectly.
