Exactly considering Marek's usually comes from wild birds. It's nearly impossible to prevent.

Yeah exactly!!! Plus could accidentally get on shoes, etc. and be carried in. Pretty rude (and stupid) of that person to call everybody lazy asses and say cleaning the coop will prevent Mareks :lau

I didn't even see that comment 😂 Marek's isn't something that you can prevent even with a vaccination. Hopefully they never get it...

Yeah it’s right above mine which is what I was replying to but I didn’t directly quote it haha it’s imbedded in the quote so you have to expand to read it. Read the rest of it. Pretty funny actually. :lau

And yeah exactly!! Vaccine or no vaccine you can still get it.

I hope they don’t get it either. But if they do.... guess they’re a lazy ass who didn’t clean their coop enough!?

@KDOGG331 it's imbedded in my quote too. Just know I did not say that 🙈 These poor people who have had Marek's I know most of them and I know they take very good care of their birds!

@bobhoke You do realize Marek's comes from wild birds and can be tracked on clothes and shoes if you were in contact with other infected poultry... It has nothing to do with cleaning your coop.

Marek's is not something that you can prevent by cleaning your coop well or taking very good care of your flock, which everybody who has commented that they've had it does!

Calling people lazy because their birds caught something that wild birds carry is quite rude. There is no way to prevent contact with wild birds unless you put your chickens in a bubble. Wild birds live all throughout this world and there is no way to prevent the spread of this disease.

You can get the vaccinations which doesn't prevent the disease It just helps with the symptoms so that you do not lose your flock. Your flock will still become infected.

When you get this disease many people have to kill the infected birds to try to prevent the spread of it to their flock. It's not something to be joking around about or making rude comments about because many people have lost an entire flock due to this disease that cannot be prevented being clean like you suggested.

Please read up on the disease before you make such comments.

Yeah exactly! I do too and that’s why I said what I did because I know everyone takes good care of their birds. And yeah, I knew you didn’t say it and it was just an error when replying but good to clarify in case anyone didn’t know that. :)

I guess that's why you didn't see it because I saw my name with what I said but then I read in-between what I wrote and was in shock. I was like I didn't write that did I. I've been so sick that I don't even remember from Thursday till Monday and people have been telling me I've wrote some pretty funny things to them in texts when I had the 104 temp.

If you order chicks from Meyer Hatchery the vaccination for Mareks disease is only $1.00 per chick. I only get a small number of hens from them so its easily affordable.
I think the more you buy the cheaper it is because when I was going to order from them it was $0.20 per chick for the vaccination.

I've been hatching from my own eggs so I never ordered from them, but I think I was ordering more than 25 chicks or something like that so maybe that's why I got that price.
