after a lot of thought and internal debate I've made the decision to vaccinate for Mareks in my flock. i realize this is ideally done when they are first hatched but the goal is to vaccinate before exposure. they are still inside at this moment but soon will be outside.I've learned this vaccine I'm getting is related to the herpes virus of turkeys HDV and HVT not actually the Marek's virus mdv and creates antibodies. and I'm not actually giving the marked virus. as i understand it and was explained to me by a doctor. because il be showing my bird it does put me at a greater risk than a closed flock so I've decided to protect my girls. i hope it goes well and I've chosen to do the right thing for my birds. the reason I'm posting this is i wanted your opnions on vaccinations for this disease
i was mis informed for quite a while believing if i do this my girls will be shedding the virus from vaccination on out. later I've learned after consulting with a Dr. that this is just not true. being it is NOT Mareks il be administrating. what is your opnions on this vaccine and do you think higher risk groups like people who show should do it?thanks for your input.
