I have a question about vaccinations. If your existing flock has been vaccinated and I eventually add a new flock that isn't vaccinated can the new flock get sick from the vaccination that the old flock has had....like Mareks? I know that the vaccinated flock now carries a little bit in their system to build up immunity... That's why I'm asking this question.

G’Day from down under Kelly :frow Welcome!

Sorry, I am not able to answer your question as I keep a pretty much closed flock and any 'newbies’ are hatched here.

However, someone should be along shortly who can answer that question for you or you might like to post it on the Managing Your Flock Forum

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

If you are just talking about the Marek's vaccine and not other vaccines and your flock doesn't have Marek's, then no, the new members would not catch it... the Marek's vaccine is made from a killed turkey strain of the Marek's virus, it is different from the strains that chickens can get infected with and is safe... *however*, if your flock was ever exposed to any of the chicken strains of Marek's and are now carriers (the vaccine can mask whether exposure has ever happened) then the new members can definitely be affected if any of the existing flock actively shed the virus...

I do recommend going to the link @orrpeople posted though, and talk with the amazing members there... :)
For other vaccines, it is highly recommended to not mix vaccinated with unvaccinated, though... just fyi... it all depends on which vaccines you are dealing with...
