I’m preparing to order my chicks and they offer Mareks, coccidosis, vaccinations and beak trimming. Should I or should I not get the vaccinations and beak trimming and should I get medicated or non medicated feed depending on what vaccinations and services I get?

No beak trimming. If you get the vaccinations (which I did), do NOT get medicated food as they will cancel each other out. Hope this helps.

Are you sure about this? Could you please provide links or information to support this?

IIRC, medicated feed helps suppress coccidosis so the chicks can become immune to it but would have no impact on any other disease/sickness/bacteria/etc. At least that's what I've read.

I did not get any vaccinations and did not feed medicated food. It's all optional.

I had mine vaccinated and was told by the hatchery don't use medicated feed or the vaccines were pointless. I wouldn't do the beak trim.

Beak "trimming" means they cut off part of the beak and then cauterize it so it doesn't grow back - it's meant for commercial settings where birds are so crowded and stressed that they cannibalize each other. So NO on that.

Marek's vaccine is up to you... some people believe in it, some do not. Mine are vaccinated for Marek's simply because the feed stores here order them that way.

The hatcheries themselves say not to feed medicated feed to coccidiosis vaccinated chicks as they'll cancel each other out.
