Update today 7/22/25, I saw a what looked like single roundworm poking out of a turd under my flocks roost tarp. I am at my wits end right when I think I am catching a break. I’ve owned horses and honestly chickens seem to be more work and more money!
Living in the swamp (florida) isn’t helping either! It’s hot, muggy, rainy and just plain nasty.

Perfect weather for nasty worms and other things…
Back history: I treated my flock with valbazen after seeing one turd with a few worms. About 5 days during the first dose, I saw multi dead worms in their stools. After the second dosage no worm were seen.
I hate to go through this again… especially if it’s just one of the hens having the worm load. All my lost eggs

I still have their eggs that I cooked during the time that they were undergoing treatment…. That I am feeding back to them. However, I don’t think any dewormer residue that’s in those eggs is strong enough to do any good.
I used valbazen last winter and this last time, I am thinking on using safeguard aquasol made for chickens this time around since fda claims that there is no egg withdrawal. I am tired of throwing eggs away… I appreciate any thoughts….
My current flock weight is 49.5-50 lbs total.
Last valbazen dosing was:
- 5/28/25 first dose
- 6/7/25 (10 days) second dose
- 6/21/25 (last day of 14 day withdrawal)
Below is Ai dosage calculations & instructions for aquasol for chickens. I just want to confirm if it is accurate before treatment. I’ve never used this medication or medicated through their water so any “HUMAN” suggestions and/or tips would be greatly appreciated. Also water can get so hot in Florida any tips to make sure they drink it. I have a converted horse stall barn with outdoor runs attached. I probably will just keep water inside. And just to clarify I would need to change water daily with new medication for 5 days?
Thank you in advance!
