Valentines Day Hatch-A-Long 2016

They don't need to eat for about 72 hours after hatching. You do need to show them how/where to drink though. You just dip their beak in the water. They get the hang of drinking fairly quickly. Chicks are incredibly curious, and they usually find the food on their own.
How long would you give the other two eggs?

Candle them. Check for movement around or in the air cell. That would indicate that there is a live chick getting ready to pip within the next 24 hours. If there is nothing moving around or pushing against the air cell, then the chick is likely dead.

The two that have hatched so far!

No more pips yet, the second chick hatched last night. They aren't technically due til tonight though, so giving them a few extra days.

I opened the oozy smelly egg. I broke it inside a bag on top of my outdoor bin. There was a pink translucent lump in a nasty grey green soup. It would have been terrible if it had stayed in the incubator.

New to the site. Few pictures of our chicks that hatched last night (Feb 13) mystery breeds from a friends farm.

Our 9 month old dorking went broody so we decided to try her with 6 eggs, 4 of the 6 hatched!
