Vanilla Air Freshner????

I recommend saving your money. If it's flies you're talking about, they laughed at my vanilla air fresheners last summer. The only thing that worked was the bag type fly traps which stink, and the onset of fall with it's rain and cooler weather. We had a million flies during the summer.

Haven't gotten my chickens yet, but I plan on giving the vanilla air fresheners a try. Worse case, it will make the coop smell like sugar cookies! I even took a little pure vanilla extract and wiped it on my dog, who was being bothered by flies.

It has to be the Vanillaroma x-mas tree ones, I usually get them pretty cheap at Walmart. I have had good luck with them in the chicken coop and around the rabbit hutches. Give it a whirl, you never know if it will work for you until you try it.

I tried them last summer, didnt notice much of a difference other thank the smell was nice. I agree with taking care of any moisture problem, keeping up with litter changes, using fly sticks/paper( one byc'er said her chickens like to eat the flies off the stick), I also hung cow fly ear tags in my "chicken stalls" where a couple of trios are in closer quarters. I have also wondered about the "fly predators" u can buy in the mail..... they are some sort of insect that kills flies but are harmless to livestock. Also, in the area of my big barn that NO animals are allowed, i sprinkle the blue crystals (gold marin fly bait) on the ground, it is expensive, but works very very well. I live in central louisiana, so im almost positive we have the worst insect problem in the U.S.

It's not a 100% fix, but I definitely think it helps cut back on the flies. I have a couple of them hanging in each run as well as in the coop, and I've noticed a definite decrease. Plus, it smells great when I go outside to visit with them!
