Vanilla Beans on Ebay?

Yep - We got both Madagascar and Tahitian vanilla on Ebay for making extract. It is WAY cheaper than even Sam's club, and they're good quality. In fact...I need to use the rest somehow before they go bad. I might be making a ton of vanilla sugar for Christmas this year.

I purchase mine on eBay--- been a while dot remember what seller I bought from. Just started 2 big bottles of vanilla extract tonight.

Where is the cheapest place to get gift bottles for packaging???

I really need to get some, my friend and i need them to make Crème brûlée's! Is there anywhere cheaper?

ummm..this is going to be a really dumb question I think...but WHY do we need to buy these???

seriously I'm not trying to be dumb here...I dont bake a lot...sooo...??

For more than 10 years I have purchased Mexican Vanilla Extract on eBay in large bottles. I think I pay about $15.00 for the bottle (about 32 oz) with shipping. It's amazing.
I've also purchased bundles of vanilla beans on eBay - what makes them so cheap is they are considered "B Grade" - in plain english there is a "standard" that the spice companies use to grade the beans.
The ones on eBay are a little shorter in length and have some tiny cosmetic "flaw" that causes them to get passed over for commercial resale.
Most people slit them lengthwise down the center with a sharp knife and then scrape the little black beads and put the bean pod and those beads in say milk when making a custard.
It really doesn't matter if it's a tiny bit shorter or a little "deformed". The money saved over a vanilla bean out of the spice department at your grocery store is mind blowing. I mean WHY would you waste that much money when you can get something very good for so much cheaper.

I wanted to know about the Ebay ones because around here... you can get a small jar with TWO Madagasgar Bourbon vanilla beans for $7.99. If I can get 25 Grade A beans on Ebay for $13.99 with a small amount for shipping... heck yes. (Speaking of, my beans should be here tomorrow!)

I plan on making small batches of jam (wish me luck, first timer) - blackberry vanilla, blueberry vanilla and cherry vanilla. The vanilla is supposed to make it taste even better. I do a lot of baking and can't wait to make vanilla bean cheesecake.

ETA: You can make your own extract and also use the leftover pods for vanilla sugar (just throw it in the sugar jar).

I got 15 madagascar bourbon vanilla beans/grade A+ for $7.95 w/free expedited shipping. Says their length is 7 to 7.5 inches.

However, I am a bit irritated at the moment. I have not received the beans yet. I payed on the 15th and says estimated shipping would be here on the 20th or 21st. I got an email today the 22nd saying they were just shipped today. I paid 7 days ago.

Hopefully the quality is as it says.

I was looking just now at vanilla in the bottle made in Mexico. There are several. How do I know which to order or does it matter? Do you know the differences between them? I remember a lady having this one here in Washington at her house so I was leaning towards this one.
