Strawberry season was too short this year in NW IN!

We bought cheap vodka and ran it through a Britta filter a few times. You can't tell that it was $10 a gallon vodka - it tastes more like Smirnoff. It's a great way to save money on the extract, especially if you're making a lot for gifts or party favors.

We bought our beans from VanillaProducts on Ebay. It was a great deal. We had enough for four gallons of strong extract with plenty of extra beans leftover.

so lets say someone ( NOT ME!) had a bottle of vodka and added beans. but they slit the beans, scraped them and used 60 or70 % of the seeds for baking then just soaked the husks in the vodka with the additional whole beans. Now they have extract for sure, but it has chunks in it of seeds. Can it still be used? Does this person ( NOT ME AGAIN!) have to filter any more than cheesecloth to catch and pod particles.. I would assume I ( oops!) can still use it even with seeds in it right?

I don't see why you, I mean... they couldn't use it even with seeds in it. You could try to filter it through a coffee filter.

I got my beans today and my goodness did the rest of my mail smell good!

I took an old squatty captain morgan spiced rum bottle and ran it thru the dishwasher and let it air dry. I added about a dozen or more split beans (from ebay) and covered it with vodka. It has sat for a couple of months and is awesome. I don't filter it or worry about the seeds.

Now THAT is gonna be some awesome vanilla extract to use in baking - nothing wrong with the vanilla seeds folks, try making a creme caramel using a split and seeded vanilla bean pod (include the seeds) by scalding the milk with the bean/seeds in it... Once the milk has had time to rest just pour into your recipe, seeds and all.... Oh this is making me HUNGRY !!!
