Hi,
I'm updating my emergency chicken box and I read that Vaseline is being used in cuts on chickens.
Do people actually use Vaseline? Is it safe? I've also seen threads about coconut oil and that's good too right?
Thanks

Do you have a reference where vaseline is recommended to be used in cuts? I don't necessarily see too much harm of it, but would think that store brand triple antibiotic ointment for a couple of bucks would be better (just my thoughts on that).

Vaseline, as well as, castor oil, coconut oil, A+D ointment, etc. will work just fine for Scaly Leg Mites - the concept is to smother the bugs.

Vaseline and coconut oil are also good for pasty butt in chicks - wash the bum, dry well, then apply either one - this helps keep poop from sticking and soothes a raw vent.

So.....bottom line - it won't hurt one bit to have Vaseline in your ER box!:)
