Vasoline/petroleum jelly/coconut oil

I've never done it here in Michigan. I have learned to love roosters with smaller combs and wattles, and use waterers that don't encourage/ allow them to get their wattles wet during the freezing weather.
'Less is more' works for many things, in my experience.

I just applied recently here will check tomorrow as just got back from weekend trip with daughter in Hocking Hills hiking. I don’t think you need a daily application. :thumbsup

We are expected to get some cold weather in the next day or two. I live in the Black Forest area of Colorado Springs, just south of the Palmer divide. With this being my first winter with chickens, I am learning all kinds of new things. My HOA will not allow electricity to my coupe. So anything goes at this point. I applied some petroleum jelly to my girls combs and waddles this afternoon. Just was curious how often it should be done. I will let you know how it works.
How cold?
What breeds do you have?
Do you have a cock/erel with a huge comb and wattles?
My take on frostbite is 'hands off' before and after.
Most my girls combs are not big enough to get bitten,
they do singe their wattles while noshing on the snow banks tho.
