Vaulted Skull?!?! Please help

When I first saw her, something looked wrong, but after you posted that picture of her fluffed out, it looked like the Crested Polish rooster snuck into your hen house. That chick looked crested.

Sorry to hear about Polly....it's always upsetting when a favourite dies.

I don't however, think that was a vaulted skull but a failure of the skull bones to fuse at all with the brain outside of the head. I don not think she could have lived for long.

You did your best for her.

Yeah I was wondering if there were going to be feathers on it, but then when she got fluffy the first thing that came to mind was a Polish. And I don't have any in my bloodline.

Sorry about Polly--- she was a cutie.
I raise mostly Silkies, and some Polish, and have hatched enough vaulted skulled Silkies to not worry about it anymore. A lot of people believe that the vaulted skulls produce larger crests, and so far that seems to be the case for me (except for my buff silkies--they always seem to have tiny little crests even with the vaults) But my initial reaction when I saw Polly's skull was there was something wrong. A deformity. Looked like a major build up of fluid. I had a friend who had a similar experience as Polly, named the chick Jimmy Neutron, and after a week or so the little chick passed away.
I am sorry for your loss, and I know it is heartbreaking. You did NOTHING wrong--- Polly just wasn't meant to make it. I hope you can enjoy the rest of your little fluffers & have a beautiful day

some silkies have vaulted skulls thats what happened if it happens again know it is perfectly normal I don't know why it died

I have just hatched some silkie chicks, I too was horrified to see a vaulted head so big on one of mine out of the 5 hatched so far she has the biggest vault by far, some having none at all, she is a day old and happy eating, drinking and running with the others in the brooder and after some reserch im feeling confident she is going to be fine, but I will keep you all updated
