Vegans of BYC!!

Its important to do research and take supplements to ensure good health on a plant based diet, but it is possible to thrive on the diet. The first time I went vegan, I struggled because I didnt know what to eat. This time Ive researched, and there are plenty of healthy, non genetically modified formed of plant based protein. That is interesting! Though soy isn't something I personally eat a lot of, really.

Yes, we are naturally omnivores, yet modern research shows us that processed meat causes cancer, and red meats can cause cancer also. In moderation, one can live in okay health on a meat diet, but I will always believe plant based to be healthier, as long as it's done properly, gradually and carefully.
Same goes for dairy, that's a big one. 70% of people cant even digest it properly. Plenty of what we eat, and how we eat it, is unnatural.
Processed meat with all the nitrates, salt and fake ingredients sure, I’ll agree they aren’t good for anyone. And that much of what we eat is unnatural as well.

Actually, we do not have teeth compatible with meat consumption. Our teeth are very very similar to cows, for grinding, not tearing. Humans are created to eat a plant based diet. Science proves the Bible - again!
I don’t believe in the creation myths of religions. “Science” is unable to explain so much about our past with any accuracy that much of what I read I take with a grain of salt. I can’t tell you how many things have changed from when I was a kid, but it’s just another theory in my opinion. We don’t know because we weren’t there. I wonder how many health issues we have today have today wouldn’t be problems if we were better stewards of our environment. I could quote sources that would point to humans being omnivores and you can point to those that point to humans being herbivores. In the long run it’s all about what makes sense to us and what we choose to believe. :)

These days it seems everything causes cancer.
also, as I mentioned, I'm sure in moderation it would be okay, but I do see it as another good reason why a largely or fully plant based diet is healthier for us. As long as you ensure all the vitamins and nutrients are recieved, you can be equally (if not more) healthy!
That's where I stand on it, but again, my main reason for being vegan is more to do with animal welfare than anything else

Confession of a vegan.....I keep jars of stage 1 baby food (so just the basics) on hand in case fruit/veggies are unavailable (what've want anyway) or ridiculously priced. My youngest loves the apple and mango! Works out to be a bit cheaper than applesauce pouches and more choices.

The only thing I struggle with is add sugars in things. I means as much as I would love to only eat fresh all the time, it just isnt reality, for me at least. But canned, pouches, cups, etc most have something added. Even my home canning, most need something added. I try for low sugar recipes but it is hard.

I use a lotttt of tinned produce, be it vegetables, beans, chickpeas, it's cheaper here and they store well! I am lucky though, we usually have fruit and vegetables available, but they are expensive to buy for everything, so I try to save money where I can.

I like reading about what other folks eat who exist on a plant-based diet. So, I've been a big fan of this thread, which has been pretty respectful of everyone's beliefs and opinions, their reasons for or against eating animal-based products.

Open discussion is great, but I feel as if the thread is veering off course a bit when religion and faith are debated. I enjoy learning about various religions ( I have one myself!), how individuals see their place in the world, how and what they worship. But some of humanity's great wars have been fought in the name of or under the guise of religion.

Religion can be weaponized because no matter how much, how fervently or what any of us believes, we truly cannot PROVE it until after we are dead. At which time, I am sure none of us will be posting on BYC.

I may be in the minority here, but I would rather read about a good recipe for curried chickpeas than Biblical/religion debates -- which I might join if on another thread.

I do agree, it can tie in a bit when it comes to diet, but isnt the main subject at all.
Also religion is a complicated thing in my life and it can get kinda uncomfortable. I don't mind too much, but I would hate for anyone else to feel that way.
Thank you for speaking your mind!

Speaking of curried chickpeas, I think I might have that for lunch. What are y'all eating today?
