Vegans of BYC!!

Pics
I believe that nutrition is also important, and we have the teeth to tearing meat for a reason. Our bodies are meant to obtain nutrients from many sources, not just plants. Many sources of vegan protein are highly genetically modified and soy has been shown to have an impact on estrogen levels.

Regardless, I think you’re all awesome for loving the animals and you have my support for that reason. Not to mention there are some pretty awesome meatless meals that I thoroughly enjoy.
Actually, we do not have teeth compatible with meat consumption. Our teeth are very very similar to cows, for grinding, not tearing. Humans are created to eat a plant based diet. Science proves the Bible - again!

Honestly, I'm not sure. The videos I've seen, the bird looks upset at first (not that I blame him), but after a day or so of calm, they usually are back to their normal selves if everything went good.

So it's very possible that it's very painful, or it might be that because of how it's done, it's not as painful as one would expect. I get they're prey animals, but I feel that even prey animals would take longer than a day or so after the surgery if it was as painful as we think it is.
This is true, to be fair, these birds are more resilent than given credit for, much of the time. More so than I ever thought before owning ducks. To think of things they go through and often recover from, prolapses, surgeries, sometimes even amputations. I don't suppose castration would be too much different, if done correctly.

I hope this chart helps clear up confusion on what we are genetically predisposed to eat.

I'm interested! Who here is vegan/vegetarian, and what motivates you to do so?
What do the vegans here do with their flocks and their eggs?

I'll go first! I have been vegan since last year, due to loving animals and hating how they're treated, ESPECIALLY in commercial farms- my two ducks are where my flock journey is just beginning. It actually all started with incubating store bought eggs!
So!
Dougie, and Sprightly! Dougie is 4 days older, and hatched on Christmas day! She was an assisted hatch, incredibly nerve wracking!!
Her sister, Sprightly is a very sweet girl, they both are.
When they begin laying, I will feed most of the eggs back to them. Im not sure of the best way to do this.
I'll share a photo of my beautiful girls, feel free to join the conversation regardless of your beliefs and choices. Please be kind though! And I would LOVE to see photos of your flock!

Quite similar to frugivores, I agree. If scripture is true, we were very clearly designed for plant based diets.
We definitely are! After the flood, Noah & fam were allowed a very limited consumption of animal Byproducts (milk, eggs, etc). It was revoked again later on. How do we know? Because during the wanderings in the wilderness after leaving Egypt, God himself provided food - vegan “manna”. The people grumbled, wanting meat, missing “the fleshpots of Egypt “. He brought them an abundance of quail. While the meat was still between their teeth, He struck them down dead for their lust.
