Vegetarian chickens?

Not sure of what exactly you're trying to say here, but for clarity: humans can easily be healthy and vegetarian/vegan.
Not at all. And I am saying EXACTLY what I have written.
Human can be healthy if vegetarian(= eating eggs, dairy products ) but not vegan.

OK. I would like to respectfully disagree about the vegan point. There are plenty of vegans who get the full range of macro/micros. No offense meant.;)

If you believe that human nutrition should be accomplished through artificial additives, we can not continue the discussion between us. But if you believe, as I do, that human nutrition must contain all human needs, and you with an open mind I would appreciate your response to this:
Humans like many other vertebrates need a large variety of nutrients, including vitamins. Two important vitamins are vitamin C and vitamin B12. Humans receive vitamin C mainly from plant products. Have you asked yourself where did the lions get it from? The answer is that they have the metabolic abilities to build it! The conclusion is that absolute carnivores are capable of building vitamin C. Because humans can not build it, it means that they are not absolute carnivores.
Humans get vitamin B12 from animal products, such as cow meat. My question is where does the cow get it? Certainly not from the grass it eats! The answer is that it has a symbiotic system that is able to provide her with the required vitamin. It means that the absolute herbivore are able to build vitamin B12.
Because humans can not build vitamin B12, they are not completely herbivores. The conclusion from all that is said above is that humans are not complete carnivores or herbivores the are omnivores! and they must eat animal and vegetable products to get their full nutrition.

And please do not mention algae or mushrooms as a source of vitamin B12, since you need to provide a solution for all the poor people living in Central Africa, Asia who also need to get these products in a cheap, accessible and daily way! And I do not mention that if you want to get enough B12 from mushrooms or algae, 80% of your diet should be mushrooms! And this is really irrelevant to the entire population.

Hey, Benny!!!! I miss your intellectual stimulation. How you been???? Back to the vitamin B 12. Is the vit B12 manufactured in the ruminant's gut by the natural flora there? And... what about rabbits and other such critters? Gut flora also? And is that why rabbits eat their poo???? (to recycle the gut bacteria???) I'd love to continue this discussion in PM, cause I have some further questions that pertain to certain dietary restrictions. But only if you're game.

I find this reply condescending & want to defend Snoogie's stance.

What distinguishes humans is our ability to make choices & change "nature".

If you really believe what you said above, then you shouldn't believe in getting taking any medication or eating anything other than raw foods since fire & cooking are man-made processes. You also shouldn't be eating meat with hormones or veggies & fruits with fertilizer since these are artificial additives.

We all make choices in life & in what we eat. Also in what we feed the animals we raise & eat. I think you should respect that, even if you don't chose it for yourself because it's not what you believe in.

I give my chickens feed with animal protein. I eat animal protein myself. These are the choices I make. But I want this forum to be a place where vegans & vegetarians can also discuss backyard chickens and not be afraid of having someone jump down their throat.

The real point of this thread is to share our opinions on vegetarian-fed chickens.
I wouldn't buy it myself. I think it's probably a marketing ploy and I question whether it's really healthy for the chickens. But then I've also stopped eating chicken meat since I got my chicks this spring. I just can't trust that any grocery store - even Whole Foods - would be able to get meat birds that were raised as happy as my girls are, and that makes me sad & not want to buy it & eat it.
And I think it's gross when people feed their chickens chicken meat. That's my opinion.

Snoogie was actually the one to jump on someone for pointing out that humans are omnivores just like chickens, she turned it into a diet debate. And you're contradicting yourself by saying it's everyone's choice what they eat and what they feed their animals that they eat, then turn around and say feeding chickens chicken is gross. But I thought it was everyone's own personal choice?
