Hi all,
Has anyone ever had a chook that is a vegetarian???,,as I have three chooks and when I hand out scraps 2 of them DIVE all over it like Seagulls, but 1 bird just has a slight peck and then goes back to foraging in the grass. She like some scraps like cooked rice etc., but if I have a cut up cooked sausage she just walks away. The other two fight over it like its their last meal.
Thanks for looking
Gilbert...........

Most will eat anything. There is no such thing as a vegetarian chicken - they are designed to eat veg and animal protein.

Each chicken is an individual and has its own tastes. I bet is you throw a few meal worms out for her she will like them.

Sausage does not sound like a good treat for chickens - same as its not good for us humans.

She may also be the lowest in the pecking order, and the other hens are intimidating her so she is too frightened to eat the sausage in front of them.

Your chicken probably eats insects all the time, so it is no vegetarian. I agree with trying mealworms; all my chickens go nuts for them.

I have had times when the other two are in the cage and tried giving her some treats, but she just doesn't seem interested.

When you are talking about insects, I sometimes have wondered what they are eating when they are picking at the ground.
You look at the ground but can't see anything.

Thanks for the replies
