I've done it before all summer actually. My dad doesn't like it. Well now I haven't had meat in 3 weeks so far and I am proud of myself

I told myself after state cross country I would go meatless.

Anyone else up for the challenge? see how long you can last?

I'd tell you I'm in, but I've been a vegetarian for 25 years and counting.

My parents hated it when I made my choice they've come around since. They just didn't understand it at first. Good luck!

I was a vegetarian for 6 years. I gained a ton of weight and ended up with high blood pressure. Now I am a low-carbing meat eater. I am MUCH healthier and have lost a lot of weight. My blood pressure is also back to normal.

I've done it off and on my whole life. Truth be told though, I gotta do something with all the meat that stacks up in the freezer. I love hunting too much. My longest stretch as a "strictly" vegetarian was 3 years.

PS, I have more rolls of film than I've had my freezer full... I usually supplement my protein needs with sunflower seeds over my salads, cheese, milk and hardboiled eggs (I know not 100% vegitarian, but I use it sparingly)

I've read a study about the similarities of humans and apes... nutrition wise I mean... and apes are frugavores... not carnivores or omnivores. Humans can live on a diet similiar, but our protein needs are slightly higher. Don't do this cold turkey though. It'd be like a long term heroin addict going cold turkey without methadone. it's not pretty.

Already there......strictly vegetarian for 20 years now. Still love it. No weight or health problems, feel better. Had to learn to eat well though and get enough protein (when I was young, carrot cake qualified as veggie) Good luck!!

Agree with Boyd about the going cold turkey thing and making sure you eat nutritiously.

As for other apes, chimpanzees will, can and do eat meat. Basically, chimps are opportunists.

Sorry Boyd! The anthropology major in me snuck out.

I have a problem with basing our dietary needs on that of the apes. Their intestines are different than ours for very specific reasons.

I agree!!!!!! Oh I know. But a study of their system shows that they can survive on fruits n veggies alone.

I don't know how reliable that study was though, because it's still getting potshots taken at it. Basically it says that apes need 8-10% protein max......

In our McDonalds type of world I'm sure more than that is what most of us humans eat
