Hi, all. I'm new. Anyway, these last few weeks, I've become hell-bent on concocting a really good veggie burger recipe for myself. I'm not there yet; in fact, my very latest batch has a pretty awful texture, so I'd like to pass it on to my chickens rather than waste it. Most of the ingredients seem like they would be good for the girls. I do have a question about the binder I used (and the reason for the awful texture): I added about a cup of vital wheat gluten flour to hold the burgers together. Needless to say, I don't want the girls' innards to get all stuck together too. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

. I don't think the flour would be a issue but then again I've never tried giving it to them.

Well, I didn't see any dire warnings here at byc, so I put my failed veggie burgers out for my flock before they spoiled. They were quite enthusiastic to find a new menu item at first, but they soon grew perplexed by the bubble-gum stringiness of each morsel they picked up. In the end, they cleaned up all the same. I was careful to spread the concoction all around the place so that no chicken would get too much of it. Still, I worried all day, imagined them lying dead everywhere and blamed myself harshly. Came home just a while ago, and they had all migrated to their coop for the night. The head count confirmed all were present and alive.

Now, whether I could eat that mess I served them-- well, that's another matter...
