My first Challah Braid

That is a great looking Challah!! I have been baking them every week for over 25 years!
It is a science experiment once a week! Once in a while you get a Perfect Challah!
Looks like you got one on your first try!

Have you tried the 6 stranded braid?

Next time you are at the getting place look for one of these silicone brushes, best thing since sliced bread. : ) They wash up nice and don't get all grotty like the other kind.

You are too kind...I was less than satisfied with the braid but for my first try I figured it could have been worse.

No, this is a 4 strand braid....it was as adventurous as I was willing to get for right now.

I watched several You Tube videos to learn how to braid....I concentrated on the 4 strand braid for now. I thought I'd get this one down before I tried anything more daring.

Alton Brown had one of those the other night when I was watching him make some pies. He was using it to glaze his pie crust....I'll look and see if they have them here at Walmart. If they don't then I'll be doing my Christmas shopping online again this year and I can stick one in with one of my orders. It's an hour and forty-five minute drive into the city to go to the mall and I'd rather eat glass than make that drive..... I love the internet!!!!

Very nice! and doing the egg wash with your hands without the entire thing collapsing! I wouldnt dare! lol Wife bought me a nice wide brush cause the skinnier ones I have collapse my breads...

You should try making Pan de Sal, a Philippino enriched bread. I make it frequently; the fam loves it.

I've been meaning to do a Challah. Looks like the time cometh soon.

Bravo to your Challah...thanks for your holla!

This bread is very sturdy...unless you over proofed it I don't think you would have any trouble with it collapsing...and thanks for the kind words.

I don't know if I would like it or not...I've never tasted cardamom. That's one of the things that I need to try some day.
