Soybeans are a second rate source of protein. It can keep a chicken alive, but it isn't the best for optimal health. And only fermenting totally gets rid of all the anti-nutrients and toxins in soy.
Just feeding a veggie diet does not sound worth the trouble. Point being said earlier, CHICKENS ARE OMNIVORES. And get more than one, please, for her sake.
thakns for all your replies. it will live inside because i live in skokie. and because i live 15 minutes away form chiacago and there really isnt chicken feed around here.

Just a note on this... I don't know the percentage, but I would estimate that most chickens in the U.S. are fed soy for protein requirements. This is not something occasional, this is a mainstay in poultry diets.
The midwest is full of feed stores. There's a thread around here somewhere of someone asking specifically about feed stores in chicago. If your outside of the main city you should easily find some. Easy thing to do is pull up yellowpages.com or your local phone book and look it up. Here I'll do the first step for you.. feed dealers in chicago: http://www.yellowpages.com/Chicago-IL/Feed-Dealers

This is very true. Of course, most people eat a substandard diet as well. And don't get me started on cat and dog food! :LOL
You should have no problem finding a feed store for chicken feed. You can also give treats if you just want to give them something extra. Please invest in a good duster/vacuum. You can not even imagine the white dust just 1 chicken can make. I also agree you will be better off getting 2 if you can, that way they will have company. Good luck!
