Venomous snake in pool

Be very carefull many people are bitten after the snake is dead. The reflex to bite can last for hours after snake is killed.
Yes, I do know this. Thank you so much for mentioning it though. The old adage, a gun is never empty, and a snake is never dead.

call animal control tell them there is a snake in the pool and they need to get to you ASAP or you will kill it if they say ok it is fine to kill it say you think it is a endangered speciecse and you are not going to be fined for killing the one of the last two if that is so. If they say fine then say if I get bit I will go to the Media and tell them you will not come out and I will sue you for damages.

That should work since they don't want to have it on the news or in paper form.

We don't have animal control here. If I call the police, they are going to laugh at me, and tell me to kill it. You've gotta love a small town.

how can it bite if its dead? whoa!!

You should not kill any snake in my opinion. To Godsgrl if you have a 10 ft pole that is way more than enough to safely deal with any snake. Just because its venemous doesnt mean thats its going to come after you! haha....You should net it out of the pool and walk it to the nearest woods or simply away from the pool and put it down....it will get away from as quickly as possible! Chloe its there nerves still going crazy after they are killed kinda like a chicken if you cut off its head it will run around and all that good stuff.

Pretty crazy, isn't it? I heard about someone who lost a dog after the owner killed a venomous snake, then the dog went over to sniff it, and was bitten on the nose. Say you run over or shoot an animal. The animal is still flipping around and moving, although it is quite dead. Those are the nerves, which take longer to actually give up after something dies. Those same nerves allow a dead snake to bite. If you touch it, you can receive the same deadly bite as if it were alive. I thought two hours would be long enough for it to be safe, but I recently read it's as long as 9. So to be safe, if you kill a venomous snake, bury the head immediately. Just be sure not to touch it with your hands, use the shovel. The body then can't hurt you.

I'll take your thoughts into consideration. I don't like to kill things, and I love snakes. I just want to protect my family and myself, and do what is best for all of us. I agree, just because it is venomous doesn't make it more likely to come after me. A 6' rat snake could conceivably do the same thing. I just wouldn't be worried about him.

LOL!!! Kill it!

OK, I had to say it cause that's what you said the cops would say. Personally, I think you're making a big deal out of nothing that hasn't happened. So quit dreaming up scenarios just to stress yourself out to worry about it. If it does happen, put on your big girl pants and knock it out of the water with a net. They're generally not going to do anything to you unless you're stressing the snake out.

Hmmm, last I knew snake needs to breathe air, so why are people worried about getting it out with the net and then killing it? How about netting it and holding it underwater for however long it takes the stupid thing to drown? Put the long-poled pool brush to work holding down the snakes head.

I don't see it that way. I think I am preparing myself to deal with a dangerous situation should it ever occur. Much like learning CPR. Yes, you may never need it in your lifetime, but there could be one day that you do. And knowing what to do can save a life.
