Hello!
New chicken owner here. I have four hens and this morning, I went to unlock them and I noticed that my Gingerham has a very pale comb compared to the others. My chickens’ combs are usually bright red so I was pretty concerned at this sudden change. I went inside to grab my phone so I could take pictures and get a closer look at her comb and I noticed white spots on three of my chickens’ comb (including the one with the pale comb and wattles). I checked their feathers and there were no signs of mites or lice.

While I was busy fussing over my other three chickens, my Leghorn was laying her egg. I went over to her answer I saw a big lump under her vent (I’ll attach a picture) with yellow-ish discharge and she was walking like a penguin. I went inside for three to five minutes and the lump was gone. She seemed fine after that and I don’t know what happened.

I will keep an eye on them and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Can you post some photos of the combs?

Looks like you caught your hen pooping.
Those are two of my chickens and the one in the second picture (with the pale comb) usually lays an egg every day, but she hasn’t laid any eggs for three days and the last time she did, she laid a big egg with a small one inside it (third picture).

It does look like the first one may have a few Fowl Pox lesions. I would just monitor them and see how she does. Usually Fowl Pox will resolve on it's own over the course of several weeks. There's some additional information in the link below.

The one with the pale comb and wattles, doesn't looks like she's feeling very well. That addition egg, looks like an intact follicle (did you cut it open?), hard to know, but it's not quite right either. This hen may be having some problems with a reproductive disorder. Cancer, tumors, Salpingitis, EYP, etc. can be common in laying hens. You can try an antibiotic to see if that helps, she may have infection. Worms are possible, a fecal float is best, but sometimes vet care is not available. You can find Safeguard at stores like TSC. That's what I would use. Dose is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days. Do look her over for lice/mites, see that her crop is emptying and that she's drinking well and eating. Hopefully she will start to perk up. Unfortunately, some hens that start having issues can rally for a while, then start a decline again, but let's hope for the best.

Thank you!

I cut the thing inside her egg open and it looks and feels like normal egg white inside the membrane.

She’s still eating and drinking but definitely not as much as she used to. She’s also isolating herself and staying away from the other chickens and not moving as much.

There are some white flakes that look kind of like dandruff in her feathers but no sign of mites or lice.

If it's gleet, then get some antifungal cream. The type used for athlete's foot or vaginal thrush. It's a fungal thing and like most fungal things, left untreated, becomes a bigger issue. I don't use antibiotics for gleet as they don't seem to do any good, whereas the antifungal cream does the job well.

Clean her rear and then put the cream on all the area surrounding the vent, rub it in with your finger so it's not raw cream sitting on the surface. It should look pale, like a thinly applied foundation! Also put a little bit in the opening of her vent. Just apply it on your finger and open the flap and wipe it around the inside - don't go right in, just your fingertip. Do this twice a day for about 3 days and the gleet will disappear.

I've never had to do it for more than that and sometimes it goes after day 2, in which case, stop the treatment.

Good luck!
