Vent gleet or something else?

Three of our year old hens have white crusts near their vents and they also “leak” clear or white looking liquid when we hold them or pick them up. Is this vent gleet or something else? They have had this for quite some time now. Doesn’t seem to affect them in any way.

Does it stink? Vent gleet usually smells pretty bad.

If that's it, you can get a generic version of Monostat cream and after bathing their butts, dry them off and spread that all over the vent area. Put a dab of it in their mouth or on a small piece of bread or something they'll eat entirely too. I'd do that twice a day for a few days and it should be under control.

Also, probiotics helps a lot. Even if it's not vent gleet, it may help whatever that is. We have Hydro-Hen powder here for their water, but there are many brands of that. A small amount (tblsp) of of Greek yogurt twice a day has a lot too. I'd continue the probiotics for a couple of weeks to ensure their digestive flora is returned to normal.

It looks and sounds like gleet. And as others have mentioned, an antifungal is a good idea as is electrolytes, extra protein, etc. BTW, do you mind if I use your photos in my blog about vent gleet?

Hey @CashewVulture - my chickens have a similar thing. Were you able to resolve this for your hens? If so, any tips and how long did it take?

My hen looks and sounds exactly the same as yours. Seems like a very minor case of vent gleet, but want to get it taken care of!

@CashewVulture - any chance you can give advice on how you fixed this? One of my hens has the exact same symptoms for a couple months now. She still lays eggs normally, eats, drinks, seems happy and active. But her bum looks like that, and she has some of the white liquid you're talking about.
