I’m worried my hen Henny Penny is suffering from vent gleet. Overall she seems fine, she is foraging and eating and drinking and energetic but her bottom isn’t fluffy like the other hens and her feathers look kind of wet an I can see a lot of skin. It isn’t red or anything and there isn’t any poop stuck to her but she has been having watery droppings with the white discharge associated with vent gleet. I’ve just been waiting to see if it gets better but now it’s been at least a month and it still looks the same. I gave her an epsom salt bath yesterday and she did a solid poop but her feathers still look wet. Is there anything more I should do?

my hen with vent gleet was treated by rubbing thrush cream in for three days and only feeding fermented feed. she has a lovely fluffy butt now but not the greatest layer any more .

for your hen was her vent red or did it look normal? my hens vent looks normal so i’m still not sure if she has vent gleet. she just has droopy wet feathers on her butt

yes she had a red butt and she and the other chickens were plucking her raw. However, I feel vent gleet is difficult to diagnose especially in its early stages. Let face it the chicken can't tell you its itchy and burning. Try fermenting her feed its good for the whole flock, especially if they have runny poo as it helps build up the good bacteria in her digestive system. It could be something else. Has she been wormed? Is it too hot and she's been drinking loads. Mites? Give her ACV in her water and maybe a tonic. Honestly sometimes you just have to work your way through different things to hit the nail on the head.
