Hi, newish chicken owner here and I haven't experienced any vent problems with my hens as of yet, so sorry for the gross picture, but does this look like gleet? She's always trying to get a poopy butt so I've washed her a couple times. This time she started to smell horrid! So this picture is after I washed all the poop off and directly under her vent she had yellowish crusty stuff that was pretty hard to get off. I got a little more off after this pic was taken. So just for tonight, I put VetRx on it, and then Swat fly ointment to keep the flies off of it. She's a RIR about a year and 9 mo. She's not acting sick yet. What do you all think, and what treatment can you recommend?

It might be vent gleet.

Is her crop emptying overnight.

Clean the vent an apply a topical anti-fungal cream. See if that helps.
You may find that you need to administer and oral medication like Nystatin.

VetRx is a remedy that is commonly used to help relieve respiratory symptoms, it's like Vicks Vapor Rub for chickens. I would not use it on the vent.

Thank you for your answer. I will check her crop in the morning. I was thinking VetRx was anti-microbial so I put on to try to get the skin calmed down. I won't put that on anymore. She didn't seem to mind her bath and me messing with that area after she got used to the sensation of the water. I will definitely put anti-fungal cream on in the morning and try to keep her clean. Thank you!

UPDATE: Well, it looks like it was vent gleet. She cleared up with one more butt washing (lol), monistat cream 4 times, and 3 doses of oral Nystatin suspension. I was able to put the oral medicine on some oats and she ate it, most of it anyway! Thanks to all who gave me advice:) -oh and probiotics in water for about a week. Not sure which thing helped the most, but those are the things I did to clear her up and hopefully it doesn't come back!
