Hello! One of my chicks turned out to be a rooster who is five months old and I am noticing on my older, three years old hens feathers on their backs are starting to go missing, and I’ve had two with vent injuries. I remove the rooster into a separate coop. The chickens were soaked in an Epson salt water and I’ve been Putting anabiotic spray on them. I have Seem a little bit of improvement and then they lay an egg and it starts bleeding and looks really bad again I’m not sure what to do!!! This is my first time experiencing this situation.

The vents look like they have been pecked and damaged. Does the first one have a prolapse, or is the tissue just so read and bloody? It may do them good to have a daily soak in warm Epsom salts water, or water with a bit of Hibiclens or Betadine. Then coat the vents with antibiotic ointment or vaseline after they are dry. Keep them separated from the other chickens because they will peck at the red, until they heal. If you have a dog crate large enough for them, they could be near the others with food and water.

The first one was red and bloody. I have them separated from the rest into a separate coop but I do have a dog kennel to put in there. Why would this happen to two of them? Age or the rooster? I feel so bad for them!
