Vent Pecking

I have a 3-4 week red chick and turkey chick that were vent pecked little less than a week ago. I have been cleaning the area and putting zymox cream on it. Does not appear to be getting better. As the wounds heal the scab and poop seem to be drying and blocking the vent. Im trying to clean them couple times a day. Any suggestions to keep that area clean and more importantly from drying up? Am I just prolonging the inevitable, and causing them more harm than good?

Not certain what zymox cream is , but I would be tempted to apply antibiotic ointment which should help keep the area moist.
