I have in front of me the Aug. 2009 issue of Practical Poultry.
Q: I have a problem w/ one of my two Buff Sussex hens. Her vent clogs w/ droppings. ( Does it look like your birds vent is plugged?)
A: (short version) sounds as if your bird may be suffering w/ a condition commonly known as "pasted vent". This is a nasty problem that tends to affect younger birds, although it can strike at all ages. It's an unpleasant condition that, although not contagious, is thought to be genetic in origin. Therefore it is not advisable to breed from birds suffering in this way. The best approach is to clean the bird and apply a lubricant such as Vaseline or olive oil to the vent which will help the faeces pass more easily. If the vent is red and sore, attracting pecking from other birds, use a Gentian violet spray to deter them.
This is my advice added. I would feed her some olive oil or cod liver oil to lubricate her system. I can't say what exactly is wrong from the pics, but if she looks bound up this may be it.
All the best
