I was out feeding my girls this morning and while I was paying attention to my two RIRs I heard this awful squelching sound and it was my SLW trying to poo and her vent prolapsed. It eventually went back in but she was waddling around for a bit with it hanging out. They are free ranging right now and I can almost guarantee that I won't be able to pick her up to confine her. Only one of mine lets me pick her up on a regular basis. Will she be okay until I can get her from the coop this evening? Once I do, what do I do with her? It's really odd that this happened. My SLWs lay way smaller eggs than my RIR and she is smaller than the SLWs. Maybe she's just overworked in the egg and sexy time department with my roo?

I would keep an eye on her until you can get her off the roost, if that is your plan. Clean the prolaspe with warm water, then apply prep. H or honey to the prolaspe, reduces swelling, with a lubricated gloved finger, you can use olive oil as lub, I have read here, and gently push it back in side her, may take several tries to get it to stay. keep her clam and separated from the others for a few days until she heals, the others will pick at the tissue if they see it. You may want to prevent her from laying for a few days by keeping her in a darken area to prevent her from producing an egg.

The prolapse went back in on its own but each time it took a little while. I don't know what could be causing this as she didn't even lay a large egg. Just normal size if it was even her. I only found one egg today.
