Please stop feeding this daily. It is a problem.I use oatmeal as a treat to get the chickens to come to the pen if they have been let out or some of them flew out of their area. I haven't given them any for about at least a month until recently because we have been keeping them penned up because of the 100°+ weather so they have been given a lot lately although I try to limit it to once per day occasionally 2
When we first noticed it, which was around 2 or 3 we started to research what it was and how to fix it and we found a similar website that told us to put her in warm water and clean it up, put veticyn on it and then try to push it back up and so we had put her in a bucket outside with warmish water in it and then my mom was trying to push it back up while my dad went to pick up some veticyn so we sprayed that on it and continued to push it back up but it wasn't staying and it seemed like she was trying to poop? There was a lot of bits of partially undigested poop coming out so we were gonna wait for her to finish pooping so that she might stop trying to push it out further and then we were holding her upside down for a few hours before it popped. It seemed like we did everything correctly for the most part?Calcium helps with both retention and contractions. It's commonly given to hens that have a prolapsed oviduct.
Not in this case. Too much has come out. (The intestines and oviduct)
Here's some reading about treating a general prolapse. https://the-chicken-chick.com/prolapse-vent-causes-treatment-graphic/
Antibiotics are usually not needed at all to treat a mild prolapse.
Glad you do have access to a vet. Most do not.
That bird in the link not have an egg leaking out of it. That Bird has a serious infection.I found this link somewhat helpful.

I'm glad you have one of her chicks already coming up. That will be a very special way to carry on her memory.![]()
Never hold a bird upside down. I believe it. I find it interesting that she mentions she has an abx on hand which she already administered, and at the end, credits the calcium and vitamins for the chicken's improvement!?That bird in the link not have an egg leaking out of it. That Bird has a serious infection.
As a new owner of chickens... I understand.. how would you go about culling..?I see you just added the pictures.
I would, without a doubt, end that bird's suffering immediately.
Cutting a head off works. As a new owner of chickens... I understand.. how would you go about culling..?
The bottom photo was of her about a minute before it popped and the first was of her when it had exploded.Briefly, though the second and first photo looked much different. The first photo looks very alarming, I agree. But the second photo looks like a large prolapse.
Op, which photo is current.
