vent sexing

I cant say for sure on a silkie. We are just getting the hang of them. They are different than other fowl with their fur like feathers. Hatcheries wont even sex silkies due to that. If that was any other chick, I would say its a cockerel. Cockerel are uneven hens are even. We do ours different than anyone else does when they are day olds. Everyone looks at the wing tip feathers, we do not until they are at least a 1-2 weeks old or so. Silkies can be tough, some might be easy but some are harder to sex.

I too have found this thread to be very interesting. I never knew you could feather sex all breeds. I've tried vent sexing before, but I find it hard to hold the chick just right to be able to open the vent enough to see what I need to see.
I will definitely be trying feather sexing in the future.
