I'm building a brooder for 9 chicks ( 5 are bantams ) coming next year in April, and this will be my first time raising baby chicks!
I live in WA, our summers vary, but are usually around 70-90°F.
I hit a road block in my work! I dont know how much ventilation to give them in the brooder!
Any tips are very much appreciated! :fl:D

Is this an indoor or outdoor brooder (and where specifically do you think you'll place it)? Do you have a sketch of what you're planning to make, with measurements?

I have quite a lot of ventilation in my outdoor brooder (which was converted from a prefab coop), it's half open on 2 sides and has smaller vent holes on 2 sides.

I'll be keeping the brooder in our shed next to our house, I only have a sketch, no measurements, I'm doing that tomorrow.
I can show you the sketch if you want? I also have a picture.

( there is a bookcase on top of the plywood ) I can give measurements tomorrow, if you'd like.

This is what the shed looks like.

Since it'll have the safety of the shed around it, I'd opt for a lot of ventilation - up to having all 4 sides and top in wire mesh. Really no advantage to having wood walls in an internal brooder build.

Only asked about the size as I was curious how much space you were going to give the chicks.
