Ventilation for this coop

Yep, that would be the best.

Looks like you have a ridge vent. Helpful, but snow will totally block it off. Also it's a access point for smaller critters, so make sure is covered with HC.

You *may* need both -- to let fresh air in and to let warm, ammonia/moisture-laden air out. That will depend on your precise circumstances -- the existing gable vent *might* be enough with the soffits opened.

I ripped out the vent in that picture and covered the hole with HC. I hated the vent the coop came with since dust collected on it so readily. And I was sure something would be able to get through it.

she was referencing the ridge vent at the peak of your roof.

but as far as the gable venting, you can cut out most of that triangular section and cover it in hardware cloth.

Looks to me like the underside of the rafter tails is closed in by a board between the fascia and siding.
I could be wrong but if that is the case removing it and adding hardware cloth will create open sofit venting.

I think that is what is going on, too. I have never seen a shed finished this way, but it might make it easier to convert.

Board outlined in yellow: it is flush with the bottom of the fascia board, right? Two nails boxed in red help hold it?

When me and my husband were looking at it that’s exactly how it looks. Like those nails hold that board in and it runs the length of the coop. His idea was similar, to just take the board out or cut holes in it to get the appropriate ventilation.

I can take more pictures tomorrow too. Some from the inside this time and some farther away should help right?
