We got a great coop made for us at a very very reasonable price. The only down side we saw is that it came with the door for the chickens and then the cleaning door and nest box. No ventilation in this *huge* coop. My dad and I figured we could work with that and he would come over and help me get ventilation on the top of the coop.

I was and we were curious if house vents would work? The ones you put into the ground for your heater and air condition? We found a good supply of skinnier longer ones that have holes for screws. They open and close just like house ones do.

I don't see any problem with using them... it would keep predators out so we wouldn't have to put mesh up.... we would put them along the sides at the top...

Will work fine put down low and up high to give air floras the hot air goes out the top it will pull cool air in the bottom

I am still learning, but I have seen many make little doors you can drop down over the vents, if you get really cold weather to close some of them off, too.

I don't know how particular you are with the look of your coop but you can make 3 or 4 vents in about 5 minutes with a circular saw! Cut any size rectangles up high between your studs on the walls and add a piece of plywood hinged from above and you have a nice vent. Add some mesh inside to cover the opening. I use simple wires to secure them closed or prop them open but you can add locking hinges if you want something much nicer.

6" x 24" long vent with storm flap.
