Hi all,
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes very new (2 months) - we moved onto a little farmette and thought chickens would be a great addition.
...Well except for that one chicken growing up that my brother caught during one of those "feather parties". We lived in town when backyard chickens weren't heard of much. It stayed in my dad's workshop. We never did a darn thing for it except put water out but it lived to be quite an old bird.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Eight - but that will decrease soon due to some roosters
(3) What breeds do you have?
We went for the trend of varied egg colors - 2 easter eggers, 2 olive eggers, 1 wheaten maran, 1 black copper maran, and two silkies
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
How could I not find out about BYC? In the planning stages of getting chickens, it's been my saving grace.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We live in the pacific northwest so all outdoor activities, rain or shine! Kayaking, hiking, biking, gardening, getting crafty. Right now it's been 100% building a chicken coop.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
we have two dogs - not so sure how they are going to do with the chickens. fairly high prey drives. working with them slowly but we'll see! Down the road, we'll probably add some hooved animals, but first I need to start my husband on chickens.
