the first one is a quail old english game bantam, and the bottom is a black old english game bantam that has been dubbed.

thank you for the replies and the compliment, as to Nanlee.. what does dubbed mean in regard to chickens? thank you!

the quail is an oegb and the black is also an oegb that has been dubbed

dubbing means that the comb, wattles, and ear lobes have be removed by cutting it off with a pair of scissors and is required for showing game foul like these.

Why would they want them dubbed? I would guess it is for fighting reasons, but it is part of the standard? Is it similar to clipping a dogs ears?

if you show they have to be dubbed since it is part of the standard and is in the SOP but the dubbing, i think, did come from fighting them and it is a controversial issue and i do believe there are several trying to get the SOP changed so the birds do not have to be dubbed to be shown

Yep, guess it is one of those things, that at one point in time there was a reason, the reason is now gone (or at least legally gone) but the tradition remains. Hope they can get it changed. They look so much more manly with a full comb and wattles, more like a hen without.

I love the BIG eyes that OEGB seem to all have, very distinctive.
