At our vermont swap we actually have a state ag rep on hand. if your birds have not already been tested then they will do it there free of charge. We do ask that if you have more than 20 birds to have tested please contact them ahead of time to set up an appointment. If your flock is test then simply bring your paperwork with you and you will be set.
As for the size of the swap I can tell you it will be bigger if you all show up!! But like I said before this swap being in May depends a lot on the weather. It is looking good and I have had a lot of feedback from people intending to go. This is a great spot (once you get there) and this time of year there is a lot of enthusiasm for the birds. There are usually a lot of young stock and chicks at this swap.
As a side note we are a bird focused group. Not only chickens. We would love to have more cage/house birds present. We like to say we will take anything from finched to emus. And as a matter of fact we have had these and everything in between. We also don't mind the smaller animals such as goats, lambs, bunnies, kittens, and puppies.
We do provide a concession stand at the swap with food and drinks. We offer membership sign-ups if you would like to become part of our group. There is also a Chinese raffle of birds and other related items to benefit the youth program within the group. We accept donations for the raffle and the concession table.
Please if you do attend make sure your animals are in good health and have suitable cages, food, water, etc... Make you you too are prepared for the vermont weather. please if possible leave dogs at home the birds are stressed enough without a nose in their cage.
I hope to see you all there. I know we have members looking for some of the following.
Call ducks, mandarin ducks, Ringneck doves, Golden Sebrites, mille fleur d'uccles, blue cochins, Laying hens ready to lay, Kittens, young muscovies, and pretty much anything else.
Any questions feel free to contact me or post here!
