very aggressive behavior....soup time??

Do you correct your hen when she pecks you hard? One of my gals that just started laying has become a bit bold in her approach to getting treats and was reminded yesterday the behavior won't be tolerated. I correct my top hen as well when she unfairly corrects another hen. I try and not intervene as I know all too well about the order of who is at the top and bottom. But if I feel that the punishment does not fit the crime, I step in. Chickens are pretty smart and if they want what you have, will adjust their behavior. If no one corrects the wrongdoer, then the hens thinks that the behavior is acceptable and will continue to do it. Just a thought.

I grabbed her by her neck feathers and gave quick shake. She was both surprised and let out a sound of surrender.

Ive been a trainer I guess too long to put up with behavior that I dont like. If you dont tell any animal in your household what you like and don't, then how are they to know. I think that many people treat their pets like themselves but the problem is....they are not human. The more babied any animal is, the more problems your going to have later on. I completely agree with the article that was initially written for this post.
Find rules that you can live with and stick to them. Most all animals will find that a consistent, fair owner is better than one who is kind one day but not the next.

I do agree with you on all counts. Love em all, but they are still animals. They reward us almost daily with eggs, and we are grateful.....but...... I do not have a problem with getting rid of any of them if need be. I have just set up the hutch we used for them in the house when they were little and have removed 'Nuggett'. The others watched as I carried her by her feet, upside down and placed her far enough away from them so as not to cause them anymore grief. I am giving her 1 week in jail. Then it's probation and if she continues to hurt the others, then it's bye-bye. It would be different if it were just a pecking oder thing, but she is getting horrible. Thanks so much for all the info. I really appreciate it.
