I went out to feed my birdies this morning, and I was surprised to see that there are bloody poops all over the place! I'm assuming it's just one, but I guess it could be all of them (there's only 3). Everyone seemed fine yesterday. This is not just blood streaked poo, it is mostly blood, and very alarming! What do I do?
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
A barred rock, gold laced polish, white silkie. the BR and GLP are 7 weeks, silkie is very small and about 5 months?
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
all acting normal, polish might be a little lethargic...
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
no sign of physical trauma. No missing feathers, etc. Everyone's vents seem clean.
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
I have no idea!
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
They are eating layer feed and chick starter sometimes...
They free range in the garden part of the day, and I give them some household "compost"... yesterday it was cantalope, lettuce, radish greens, burnt toast
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
There is lots of very bloody poo all over their run! Not just streaked, but VERY noticeable!
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
I dont know what to do!
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Is there some kind of medication or wormer or something I can get at a feed store?
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
n/a
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use
Coop is a 3x3 box with hay and pine shavings, with a 3x6 enclosed run.
I have not used any insecticide or herbicide at all and the only fertilizer was applied to the lawn about 6 weeks ago.
Thanks in advance, for any advice or suggestions....
