So, we bought some random chicks from Meyer extra chick bin. Today, the legbar laid her first egg, and it seems really blue! So pretty! She is 30 weeks old, so we've waited quite awhile for this egg.

Next to a few of the brown shades the other ladies lay:

oh wow. That was my dream when I got an EE, she lays beautiful very large eggs, but they are the lightest shade of brown made. Like coffee with more cream than coffee. I love her so much it doesn't matter, but I have to admit I dreamed of that blue egg you have. Legbar, on my list. Congrats on your beauty!

Wow, nice blue.... am soooo jeally!!
You went right to the hatchery?

Yes. Had a broody at home, but were off visiting relatives in PA. As were driving thru Cleveland to return home it dawned on me that Meyer Hatchery was in the area. I texted back and forth with their customer service to see if any random chicks were left (I was not driving, btw), since it was 5 days after hatch. There were still chicks available so we stopped in and picked seven to give to the broody. We ultimately kept only 2 of the chicks, selling the others at auction, and this girl is one of them!

Very beautiful! Congratulations. I waited a LONG time for my EE to lay a blue or green egg, too, and she started right around a year...it is such a gorgeous color, so well worth the wait. :D

Wow! 1 year!!! We had dark brown Leghorns that were very late to lay: 38 weeks, 44 weeks, and not yet when we sold them, so I can sympathize regarding the waiting for eggs!!

One EE laid her first bright green egg at fair last year. We placed it to the side while cleaning cages, and whaddya know...someone took it within the 2 minutes we had our attention turned, but at least we got a pic of it before it was swiped! I guess it’s hard to not be attracted to such pretty eggs!
