that is pretty sad, sorry for your loss. if you can get day old chicks you could take advantage of her broodyness even now.

No more chicks are available for this year at any of our feed stores or TSC either. It's too late. Good idea though.that is pretty sad, sorry for your loss. if you can get day old chicks you could take advantage of her broodyness even now.
I like to let "nature take it's course" whenever I can. I have to admit I do not like to raise chicks, I'd rather the broody Mom do her duty! I really don't need any more chickens anyway so it's sad, but not necessary to have the chick. Not your fault. Same thing happens often on very large breed dogs too. Thats why when my hens hatch chicks I take them and brood them in my house till they are like 6 weeks. Less mortality.
Hot dang, look at the spurs on that rooster! He's so handsome!I have a hen that has been sitting on an egg, it's near ready (Tuesday) and now she switched with another broody that is VERY BIG as well. These big hens are products of my Harvey, a white jersey giant that when standing next to me (5 feet tall) comes up to my crotch he is so large! He produces very large hens that I just found out is not good for raising chicks! Time to slip a fake egg under her as well, ASAP!
