One of my RIR's walks around making a loud sort of whining sound. And often when one of the other girls is on a nest she does an abreviated egg song. Of the 6 nest boxes in my chicken house there's a favorite and the girls practically line up to get in. One will be in there and another will be sitting on the closest roost craning her neck to watch for signs the other girl will be out soon. Then as soon as one is out another will get in there and there'll be another either sitting on the roost or standing on the perch right outside that nest box.
My girls are all beginners and yesterday I got 8 eggs, a new high! They used 5 out of 6 boxes but that nest box was the one with the most eggs. They are so interesting, fun and funny to observe and I do a LOT of observing. It's a good thing my girls and I are so close because they might not appreciate me hanging out with them so much. lol
