Yeah, i agree strongly with this. Cat bites on birds can be very serious as cats have a bacteria in their mouths that can be lethal to any birds. It's worse than when they bite other animals. Watch the bite wounds very carefully.

I would have killed the predator without batting an eye. If it were lucky enough to make it off my property when I caught it in the act, a live trap would be out before nightfall. Then I would have disposed of it discreetly & with much glee.

I like cats, better than dogs infact---as pets. Once they begin to harm livestock, however, they are no longer pets in my eyes, now they are pests.

The animal was lucky you chose a paintball gun. If the owner can't see fit to protect their "pet", then you have no choice but to rid yourself of a problem however you see fit.

I don't know if there is a leash law where you live, here it is county wide, and includes cats. Maybe you could call animal control and have them set out a trap. That way you would be (without question) on the right side of the law. The cat would be tagged a nuisance animal, and the owners would have to pay to get it out of "jail"....if they cared that much. You would be covered in the event you are forced to kill it.

I would put antibiotic in his diet immediately!!! I can attest to cat bite infection!!! My sister and I were both bit by her cat (long story short - we took her old cat to the vet, some idiot brought her dog in on the wrong side, cat freaked out and bit us both before rapping her up in a towel).

CAT BITES ARE AWEFUL!!!!! I was on IV antibiotics within 12 hrs of the bite!

Thanks for all the responses! Joey is doing fine and also pen dose have a top made out of chicken wire. I don't know how that cat got joey out. The cats been back, and it keeps looking at my pheasants. I have a 25ft x 25ft pen that has about $600 worth of pheasants in it.

If that cat gets any thoughts, its getting a 50 grain pill out of my 22-250.

My cats were in site of my chicks and were only half interested in them. The chicks are now 9 weeks old and the cats would have a good fight in all but 2 of them. They'd be bleeding pretty bad. Once full grown, my cats won't bother them.

Luckily they don't leave our property. I would have a hard time doing in a cat as I've always had one but I certainly wouldn't tolerate one like you've dealt with. People need to understand that our chickens are just as much a pet as someone's cat or dog (or ferret, parrot, snake, spider, whatever). Good for you for standing your ground. She has been duly warned, keep her cat away from your chicks or it won't be coming home. Just bury it quick, she'll be over as soon as she hears the gun shot.

If the cat has already been back, he is way past the thinking stage and already making plans to dine on chicken.

After dark,I would set a trap for the cat. Use tuna for bait. Cover the trap so the neighbor cannot see what is in the trap. Carry the entire trap somewhere where no one can see what you get out of the trap . . . . .

Now, do something permanant so you won't have this problem again.

If the cat keeps coming back, the the owner is to blame when something happens to it. There are plenty of cats who are raised indoor only.

You may want to get a trap. You might not be awake, or even at home, to protect your birds when it decides to come back and kill them.

I'm glad Joey is doing well.

Keep a good watch out! And good luck on your situation, I know how stressful this must be on you.

Keep us posted!

Trap.
Relocate.

Or, shoot to kill. Paintball gun is not a good choice. A good pellet rifle will dispatch a cat quietly............
