Very new to raising chickens.....Need help!!!!

What about not having a run yet? Will this hinder egg production? I am going to let them roam my yard today with me out there with them for an hour or so and then put them back in....any thoughts

If they were to be locked inside the coop 24/7 it could possibly reduce egg production.

Is your yard fenced, so hopefully they won't fly the coop. If you are out to keep an eye on them - I think they would do okay for a short time. I'm guessing you have hawks, etc. and they can come out of nowhere and snatch a chicken.

You may find it easier to get them back in your coop if you let them out an hour or so before dusk - that way, they should return of their own volition once darkness begins to fall.

Hello everyone,
I first want to say, thank you so much to everyone who responded to my post and many questions. I have learned so much from y'all, everyone one of y'all have been amazing! My baby girls now have a 2 story coop that is 8ft by 16ft with there own nesting boxes along with a 20ft long 10ft wide run. I am getting eggs everyday now from all my girls, and they are so happy! I have wormed all of them and have put vitamins and electrolytes in there everyday water, since I have done this there poop is now completely normal. They are stress free and singing the egg song everyday! Thank you again for everyone's help!

Thank you
The very happy chicken lady

Thats great news!
