VERY pale comb, huddled/ruffled, rapid weight loss, tail down - Worms?

Pale comb, huddled, feathers all ruffled, and tail down, too thin...

All signs of Cocci.

Could be mites or worms too, but I always treat for all three at once because the symptoms are so similar.

Mites *will cause anemia, stunting, weight loss and can even kill them. He's a bit young to have worms bad enough to makenhimthat sick although it's possible. My bet is on the mites. ALL your birds need treated and their living spaces. DE will NOT NOT NOT take care of mites. I don't care if 500 people in a row say it, it still won't take care of mites. Won't prevent them either.

I highly recommend it... it can't hurt, and it sure could help!

And I would dust with Seven... just once to kill all the mites that are there right now. DE won't kill them.

You know, I'm beginning to get the feeling that you're right about DE. I keep hearing that it cures mites, but I have several birds that I have treated with DE who have NOT gotten better.

Okay, so the decision is Wazine, Frontline, and Corid?

Well I am still here.....very interesting reading here about worms and age Ksane You are correct about DE not taking care of the mites, its only a stopgap measure [should have added that] Frontline DOES take care of the little buggers tho.

YES!

That sounds good.

Also make sure to add vitamins/ electrolytes and ACV to his water to help his immune system!

Don't forget to de-worm again in about 10 days with something stronger (if he is on the road to recovery)...

Hope your little guy makes it!

X's 2.... I lost a pullet to mites, horrid little things. DE is a great dust bath and may assist in prevention in addition to other preventatives such as Adams or poultry dust, but that's about it IMO. It helps make the chicks bodies/fur uninhabitable to the mites. Good luck to you and Mr Roo! Best wishes
